Yooka-Laylee Nintendo Switch Version Begins Testing

Playtonic Games has just released a significant update for the PC edition of Yooka-Laylee, and it finally addresses everything from the title’s longstanding camera issues and fixes a modest amount of bugs. While this is sure to satisfy those playing on PC, gamers waiting for the Nintendo Switch editions of Yooka-Laylee are left asking when it’ll be their turn to play. Today, Playtonic Games took to Twitter to provide some clarification on the title’s release date on the Nintendo Switch.

According to the studio, Yooka-Laylee is now undergoing Switch-specific testing. The studio waited until its first major update was complete prior to doing this so that the Switch release will include all of the updated content right from the get-go. Even without the new patch, the crowdfunded title is filled to the brim with entertaining content, delivering healthy portions of stylized gameplay that fans of titles like Banjo Kazooie have come to expect.

Here’s what Playtonic Games had to say about the Switch-specific news:

The studio promises to have a release date announced shortly after the testing concludes, and followed up with a statement confirming that such a release is still on target for 2017. Given that the summer months are already in progress, it seems highly likely that Yooka-Laylee will arrive to Nintendo’s portable platform before the holiday window shows face. In any event, gamers can rest easy knowing that they have less than 6 months to go before they can take Yooka-Laylee with them wherever they go, courtesy of the Nintendo Switch.

It was likely a good idea at Playtonic release the more polished rendition of the title, especially considering some of the bugs in the launch day version of the game allowed players to skip most of the title itself. Kickstarter games have had a comparatively spotty track record in terms of delivering promises, which is likely one of the main reasons they’re declining in popularity – though it seems like Yooka-Laylee was, as many had hoped, one of the good ones.

Yooka-Laylee is available now for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version will arrive later this year.
