Pokemon Sun and Moon Offering 5 More Mega Stones

Nintendo today revealed and began its next major Pokemon Sun and Moon event, gifting five new previously unavailable Mega Stones to this generation of games. This round of Mega Stones are for the following Pokemon, a selection of Generation III favorites: Blaziken, Sceptile, Swampert, Camerupt, and Banette. The Mega Stones can be acquired via Mystery Gift with the special code MATSUBUSA and are already available.

To help smooth out the process of picking up the new Mega Stones in Pokemon Sun and Moon, Nintendo has provided a simple numbered list to go through:

  1. Select Mystery Gift on the main menu.
  2. Select Receive Gift.
  3. Select Get with Code/Password, then Yes, and then Yes again to connect to the Internet.
  4. Enter the code: MATSUBUSA
  5. Watch as you receive the Mega Stones.
  6. Speak to the delivery person in any Pokemon Center to pick up your Mega Stones.
  7. Be sure to save your game.

Of significance is also the fact that all five of the Pokemon receiving Mega Stones on this event are not available in the wilds of Pokemon Sun or Moon. In order to play with them players will have to acquire them from a previous generation of Pokemon games and then transfer them into their Pokemon Banks via the Poke Transporter. This is because items are lost in the Transporter process, meaning players need Mega Stones for their Pokemon in each distinct game. That’s also what makes events like this so exclusive and exciting.

This isn’t the first Pokemon Sun and Moon Mega Stone event, but it’s definitely the biggest. Five Mega Stones at once seems like quite the prize and could imply Nintendo’s looking to release more Mega Stones sooner rather than later. Blaziken, Sceptile, Swampert, Camerupt, and Banette will join previously Mega’d Pokemon Mewtwo, in two different forms, and Pidgeot, Steelix, Heracross, and Houndoom among others.

The only future Mega Stone drop planned is a wide release for the Mega Stones Abomasite, Tyranitarite and Manectite. The stones were given to participants of International Challenge May, but don’t yet have a public global release. Expect a code for them to be forthcoming in the months to come. Otherwise, expect Nintendo to have some other surprised lined up before the release of the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon later this year.

Pokemon Sun and Moon are currently available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are scheduled for release on November 17 later this year, both also exclusive to the 3DS.
