Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood Launch Trailer Released

The battle for Eorzea continues, and things aren’t looking too promising. The latest trailer for Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood takes players to the war-torn region of Ala Mhigo, where the Garlean Empire has a strong foothold. Here, the Warriors of Light encounter a new, powerful enemy that could make prying the area from the Empire’s clutches nigh impossible.

The Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood launch trailer begins with shots of the Garlean Empire’s occupying forces, as well as the expansion’s main antagonist, Zenos Yae Galvus. Afterwards, we see a hint of the resistance currently brewing in the region, where the oppressed have taken on a new motto: liberty or death.

What follows is a preview of a crucial battle with Zenos and his very unique weapon set. From what is seen of the fight, it does not go well. After a foreboding opener, the rest of the trailer becomes a feast for the eyes, showing off the various, gorgeous locales players can explore, deadly monsters to slay, and various key characters they will meet along the way. Two things viewers are certain to take away: war is coming and the stakes have never been higher.

Thankfully, players will have a whole new array of spells and abilities to combat the growing Garlean threat and free Ala Mhigo. There will also be two new jobs available, which include the highly anticipated Red Mage and the Samurai, who showed off an impressive display of power in the game’s cinematic trailer.

Stormblood is the second expansion for Final Fantasy 14, and it takes players to a region that has been discussed plenty within the game’s story, but never actually seen. Ala Mhigo is a little different from the fantasy settings the game has typically stuck with, as it has a decidedly more eastern influence. Square Enix released a trailer not long ago that provided a thorough tour of the new region, which includes beautiful vistas and sprawling, Eastern-inspired cities replete with pagodas. There was also a preview of the expansions new underwater exploration feature, which allows players to swim uninhibited in some areas. There will also be an all-new underwater dungeon.

Those looking to dive in when the expansion launches in a couple weeks might want to take a peek at the game’s system requirements to make sure their PC is up to speed, if they aren’t going the console route. Those specs were detailed in this month’s Final Fantasy 14 Live Letter, which also lays out some of the new gameplay features.

Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood will be available on PC, Mac, and PS4 on June 20.
